About This Vehicle
The E28 was BMW’s typical upper-class sedan, produced between 1981 and 1988. This series replaced the E12, featuring a sharper, more distinctive design and improved aerodynamic properties compared to its predecessor. This 5 Series model was built on a platform shared with the 6 Series and offered a wide range of engine options. The E28 was the first BMW 5 Series to be mass-produced with a diesel engine, though it was also available with 1.8- and 2.0-liter inline-four engines, as well as 2.5-, 2.8-, and 3.4-liter inline-six engines. In addition, “e” and “M” variants were produced. The former was specifically tuned for fuel economy and efficiency, while the M models were designed by BMW Motorsport GmbH for affluent enthusiasts of motorsport-oriented vehicles.Between 1981 and 1988, a total of 722,328 units rolled off the production line. The E28 series was later succeeded by the E34. The exhibited vehicle is stock-condition, 1985 BMW M535i from the E28 series. The car was first registered in February 1985 in Germany. It was imported to Hungary in November 2024 with an odometer reading of 236,234 kilometers at the time, according to available data. It was acquired by its current, third owner in the summer of 2025. The current odometer reading is 236,247 kilometers. The vehicle’s condition is excellent. It has never been damaged; minor restorations were carried out only where necessary. The fuel pump has been replaced. No bodywork or paint repairs are required. The car features a left-hand drive and a manual transmission. All interior components and surfaces are intact and in perfect condition. Mechanically, the vehicle is flawless—no repairs are needed. The gearbox shifts smoothly without noise, the engine emits no blue or white smoke, and no rust is present on the car. The M535i represented the transition between the “standard” 5 Series and the M5. Although this model did not receive a separate, Motorsport-developed engine, it was equipped with the M5’s stiffer and sportier suspension, as well as its upgraded brakes, as part of the M-Technic sports package. Only 9,500 examples of this M535i variant were produced, making the model displayed here a true rarity. The car is fitted with 44-series star-spoke alloy wheels, as well as BBS RC090 (also known as BMW Style 5) light-alloy rims. The driver and front passenger benefit from special sport seats that provide enhanced comfort and lateral support. The front features include electric windows, a BMW Business CD radio, and a cassette holder, while the rear is equipped with manually adjustable headrests.
