About This Vehicle
The Mercedes-Benz W113 SL, affectionately known as the “Pagoda,” stands as one of the most iconic Mercedes sports roadsters of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Production began in 1963, and during its less than ten-year production run, only 23,885 units were built. The 280 SL was the most powerful version of the series, equipped with a 2.8-liter inline-six engine capable of producing an impressive 170 horsepower. These models were not only stunningly beautiful but also remarkably dynamic for their time. The model also has a Hungarian connection, as among its designers — alongside Friedrich Geiger and Paul Bracq — was Béla Barényi, the legendary Hungarian-Austrian engineer who played a key role in the development of modern automotive safety concepts. The W113 earned its “Pagoda” nickname from its distinctive, slightly concave hardtop roof design. With its precise suspension, balanced performance, and finely crafted interior, the 280 SL managed to embody both the sportiness of a true roadster and the refinement of a luxury grand tourer. A true automotive icon, the W113 “Pagoda” remains one of the most celebrated and collectible Mercedes-Benz classics to this day. The car presented at the auction is a 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL. The vehicle has undergone a comprehensive restoration, fully documented with photographs. Since its restoration, the car has covered only 1,910 kilometers. Original factory spot welds are still visible on the body. Power comes from a 2.8-liter inline-six engine, driving the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic transmission. The car is left-hand drive. The overall condition of the vehicle is excellent. It has been completely restored, although it was already in remarkably good condition prior to the restoration. The car requires no body or paintwork repairs, and every part of the interior — including all surfaces and materials — is intact and in perfect condition. Mechanically, the vehicle is flawless, requiring no maintenance or repairs. The transmission shifts smoothly without any unwanted noise, the engine emits no blue or white smoke, and no rust is present anywhere on the car. Being one of the most iconic coupe the Pagoda is a really favoured investment amongst collectors.
