About This Vehicle
The Mercedes-Benz W112 300 SE was one of the most prestigious and advanced luxury cars of the 1960s. Produced between 1961 and 1967, it was based on the W111 “Fintail” series but was marketed as a far more exclusive and technically sophisticated version with richer equipment. Under the hood lies a 3.0-liter inline-six engine with mechanical fuel injection, delivering 160 horsepower, which was considered impressive performance for its era. One of the defining features of the W112 was its self-leveling air suspension, a true technological rarity at the time, providing unmatched ride comfort on virtually any road surface. The interior of the car showcases genuine wood, leather, and chrome accents, creating the atmosphere of a true luxury salon. Every detail of the 300 SE reflects Mercedes-Benz’s period “Sonderklasse” philosophy — a dedication to maximum comfort, safety, and technical excellence. The model offered for sale is a 1962 Mercedes-Benz 300 SE. This vehicle comes from the collection of its second owner. It was notably the first 300 SE ever delivered to the United States, originally purchased by Dr. Henry Vaccaro, a renowned American physician and public figure. A period press photo shows Dr. Henry Vaccaro (left), councilman of Asbury Park, receiving the keys to the 300 SE Mercedes-Benz cabriolet from Arthur Goldman, sales manager of Labriola Motors, Inc. (Red Bank), and Joseph Labriola (right), the owner of the company. This car was the very first of its type delivered in the United States and also the first sale made by Mr. Labriola at his newly established dealership. Its retail price at the time was approximately 14,000 dollars. The car is in excellent condition — both the engine and the air suspension system have been fully restored by a professional workshop, with the entire process documented in photographs. The fuel tank and braking system have also been refurbished, ensuring that the car is in superb mechanical condition. A Mercedes-Benz delivery card is available, allowing the car’s provenance to be fully traced, even including period photographs of its original delivery. Only 708 units of the 300 SE Cabriolet were ever produced. Today, the W112 300 SE is considered a true rarity, especially in its coupé and cabriolet forms. With their hand-built bodies and extremely limited production numbers, these models are among the most highly prized treasures in any Mercedes collector’s portfolio.
