About This Vehicle
Since its founding, Jaguar has always targeted the luxury and upper-class car market. The Mark IX closely resembled its predecessor, the Mark VIII, but incorporated several important improvements, including a more powerful engine, power steering, and four power-assisted disc brakes. The Mark IX (Roman numeral 9) was produced from 1958 to 1961, during which 10,009 units rolled off Jaguar’s Coventry production line. The Mark IX was a four-door luxury saloon, and its early versions were visually similar to the Mark VIII. The most noticeable differences were mechanical: the Mark IX was equipped with a stronger 3.8-liter inline-six DOHC engine, producing 220 hp and 325 Nm of torque. This engine was powerful enough to accelerate the nearly 2-ton vehicle (1,814 kg) to 184 km/h. Additionally, the model featured four disc brakes and power steering, significant advancements for the late 1950s. On the luxury car market, the Jaguar Mark IX was competitively priced, making it popular among private owners. It also quickly became a favored choice for government use—for example, the Nigerian government purchased forty Mark IX cars in green and white state colors, which were used to strengthen their official fleet for years. The British Royal Family also favored Jaguar models for their high prestige. Its successor, the Mark X, was introduced in 1961 with a more modern, lower-profile design. The exhibited model is a unexceptional condititon British Racing Green 1959 Mark IX Jaguar. The vehicle is in excellent condition. It has never been damaged and requires no bodywork or paint repairs. All interior components and surfaces are intact and in perfect condition. Mechanically, the car is flawless—no repairs are needed. The gearbox shifts smoothly and quietly, the engine emits no blue or white smoke, and there is no rust anywhere on the vehicle. A sunroof was standard equipment for the UK market. The interior is fully fitted with leather seats and walnut trim, and various single- and two-tone paint schemes were also offered.
