About This Vehicle
The W201 series, also known as the Mercedes 190, was one of the most influential compact sedans of the 1980s. Due to its size, many affectionately referred to it as the “Baby-Benz.” With this model, the Stuttgart manufacturer began to explore the market for smaller vehicles. While initially not immediately popular with some buyers, the model later gained enormous popularity. The key reasons for its success were the many technological innovations introduced for the first time in a Mercedes. One of the most famous was the five-link rear suspension, later adopted by the W124 and other series. Additionally, the car featured front and rear stabilizers, anti-dive and anti-squat geometry, airbags, ABS, and seatbelt pretensioners. Thanks to the extensive use of lightweight, high-strength steel, the model could collide with a concrete wall at 56 km/h without causing serious injuries to its occupants. Buyers appreciated its reliability, while racers admired its track performance. The 190 also excelled in the DTM (German Touring Car Championship). Between 1988 and 1993, it secured 50 DTM race victories for Mercedes, with a 190 winning the 1992 season. That year, the Evo II won 16 of 24 races. The vehicle offered for sale is a 1987 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.6. It is being sold by its fifth owner. The car was first registered in 1988 in Spain. In October 2021, the car changed ownership in Spain, and in early 2024 it was deregistered for export, arriving in Hungary for sale in November 2024 with 275,590 km on the odometer. In April 2025, it changed ownership again, and later that summer was acquired by its current owner with 276,148 km. The car comes with a complete service manual, and following the sale, the previous owner (auction consignor) will carry out the technical inspection. The current condition of the car is in excellent.
